The Future Of Glamour Images Photographers Be Alarmed!
Should I be afraid? I'm into beauty pictures. I depict people, actual persons. I completely rely on digital format in my work. Am I likely to fail to keep up with the progress?
What I wouldn't give to learn where the path of progress will lead Glamour Images. Then I would definitely inform you about it, my dear reader, in my blog about glamour images. There is a possibility that we glamour artists will no longer play our part in this miraculous world of visual art. Nowadays most of the photographer's hard work can be done via Photoshop in less time and with lesser effort. Performing the most important stage of work is still up to us though - I mean the actual shooting. However chances are that we hand over this part to specialized rendering applications soon.
If we want to get the whole picture though, we really need to reminisce about the past and carefully study the present.
In the distant past glamour images were painted with oil onto canvas. The full range from simple, innocent face portraits up to full body nude portraits was popular and was painted for example by famous artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Cameras dawned just "recently" in terms of world history - in the middle of the 19th century. These were big bulky dry-plate cameras for studio use, which required quite long shutter times. Portraits became popular fast, but the subjects had to sit or stand completely still for quite a long time. In order to help them hold their head, head-clamps were used. Obviously, with a clamped head a model usually will not add a lot of glamour to a glamour photo.
as photography progressed, the whole process became easier. Taking pictures on film was more suitable for the purposes of glamour photography. Magazines started publishing such photos. David Mecey, the famous Playboy photographer, once said that in the recent past they had to use large format cameras for shooting pictures for centerfolds - all for the sake of quality. Consequently, they used a plenty of lighting equipment and often they blew the fuses of the place when using strobe lighting.
Nowadays glamour images take full advantage of the digital format. Those range from small to medium. Technical quality has dramatically increased, so now one can shoot a magazine cover with a small compact camera.
Now future of Glamorous Photography will be quite interesting. Will we see an advent of 3D rendering software? If so, then this future already started. One of my favorite magazines on Photoshop now comprises many pieces about various 3D software. There is an increasing number of generated 3D images on the Web. I have online buddies who are complete virtual identities from Second Life and similar and who post Flickr photo streams which consists entirely of rendered images. Their very own gallery of virtual three-dimensional glamour! When looking through some websites it appears everybody uses 3D applications only to produce some exotic and good-looking female characters, elves and so on. The generated elf images a lot of times hold all the attributes of glamour images.
It might turn out that I, the guy with a DSLR, will soon be an endangered species. Glamour photographers, be alarmed just dont panic! I will always support what I'm doing. Since oil is still so popular, as well as film, I'm sure there will be great interest in beauty photos made with digital cameras, perfect light and enormous dedication.

Frequently Asked Questions...
Nude photo studies, which period do you prefer?
I much prefer the Victorian photos of naked ladies etc. It seems once the law became more relaxed the quality went down. What do you think?
Answer:
Fruit always tastes better when it is forbidden which is why perhaps I enjoy a lot of Victorian and pre Victorian nude photos as well. During the Victorian era my favorite photographer who photographed nudes was EJ Bellocq. Now as far as this work being the apex of nude studies, the yardstick by which all other nude photographers are compared, I wouldn't go that far,but he was breaking some cultural taboos. However, breaking taboos is not unique to the victorian era every generation has its rule benders or law breakers which make us blush, or worse, land the artist in jail or cause some legal uproar. In the 80's Maplethorpes male nudes really caused a stir, though I don't think his nudes were as ground breaking as say Eikoh Hosoe's photos of nude whites and blacks which conceptually as well as physically are more interesting than many of the nude photography during the victorian era. However, in terms of quality I wouldn't say that nude photography went downhill after the victorian era unless perhaps by quality of photo you are referencing some un-quantifiable quality in the imagery. Perhaps the innocence that some Victorian nudes project?
