Does anyone know any information on the Artist Hermann Geibel, a sculptor?
I have a bronze that has been signed by Geibel and is one of 500 limited edition sculptures, I got it in 1962-65? and it is a bronze of a man and dog number 477/500. I cannot find anything other than his birth and death?
Answer:
can only find out that he lived from 1889 - 1972 apparently born in Freiburg where he also grew up and died in Darmstadt (both in Germany). He mainly did sculptures and wood carvings and he studied for a time at the academy in Munich. He was influenced by Rodin and Maillol. He first studied the animal form, but later predominantly depicted humans who he stylized in rhythmic forms.
His parents were music teachers.
Some information (which probably will not go much beyond this) can be found in a book about artists in volume 13: "Allgemeines Lexikon der Bildenden Künstler von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart" by Thieme and Becker. Which means the info will be in German.
